Making a Difference with Quarriers
Last week, members of the Hamilton Forth team alongside colleagues from across the Livingston James Group volunteered with Quarriers, one of Scotland’s leading social care charities.
Our volunteers used one of their allocated CSR days and rolled their sleeves up to spruce up outdoor areas around Quarriers’ properties and the homes of service users.
On Thursday, Rutherford Cross’ Hazel Wynn and Gillian O’Neil joined Livingston James colleagues Sophie Randles and Kirsty Sim to bring new life to the courtyard area at Quarriers’ Scottish Epilepsy Centre, sanding and painting the outdoor furniture, weeding, and planting new flowers.
The team cut back hedges, cutting the grass in the front garden, laid bark chips down and planted pots and window boxes. They were joined by a couple of the residents who helped with the plant potting. The Quarrier’s Support team was left in a very positive mood as they talked about barbeques and other social gatherings in the tidied up space.
On Friday another two groups from across the business performing gardening duties to allow greater use of residencies in Maryhill and Knightswood for Quarrier’s service users. Unfortunately, the weather was typically Scottish, but that was all part of the challenge.
Livingston James CEO Jamie Livingston joined Rutherford Cross’ Mollie Rogerson and Eilidh Graham to perform a variety of tasks at a property in Maryhill to make the garden wheelchair accessible. This involved weeding, clearing rubbish, cleaning a fence, sweeping, and planting. The residents were very grateful for the team’s effort and fun was had in spite of the weather.
Rutherford Cross’ Jonny Donnelly, Amy Fergusson, Harry Thomson and Mark Lewis performed similar duties, primarily weeding and when there was a dry spell some fence painting. Again the residents were very grateful for the team’s contribution to improving the garden space.
