Description
ABOUT:
Hamilton Forth is delighted to be able to bring to market a phenomenal new Front-End Software Engineer role to market on behalf of one of our most valued clients – Bella & Duke.
Bella & Duke’s story is an incredible one. The business was founded by two gentlemen who suffered the heartache of losing a beloved pet prematurely. It was discovered that some of the chemical additives and fillers found in some mainstream animal foods were harmful to certain species of cats and dogs – and since then, the two founders have made it their mission to ensure that no future pet-owner would experience the same sad story that they did.
Fast-forward five years, the business is now doubling in size year-on-year – providing raw, healthy pet food via an online subscription service to over 30,000 customers. Bella & Duke deliver over 20 million meals per year and 92% of their clients have reported an improvement in animal well-being inside 8 weeks of moving to the raw diet.
THE CONTEXT:
As the business has grown, so has the technology solutions which underpin it. This year has seen the addition of software engineers, data analysts, architects and UI designers – all of whom work remotely as part of a disparate global team spread between Scotland, Spain and India. The tech teams are ably steered by an inspirational CTO and form part of a collaborative business unit part of the wider Bella & Duke outfit.
THE NEED:
Forming part of a wider software engineering team, 2023’s mission at Bella & Duke involves the development of ‘wellness journeys’ – helping to deliver tailored dietary plans for customers’ furry friends.
These journeys involve the creation of a brand-new codebase and the creation of new features, functionalities, add-ons and software models which will ensure that the customer experience is optimised via a suite of robust and scalable new software solutions.
THE STACK:
Skills and experience should include:
- JS programming experience – ideally in green-field coding environments with the creation of new features and functionality
- Experience with Next.JS (desirable) in the creation of web applications
- You should also be au fait with Javascript, JIRA and CSS – but more emphasis is placed on enthusiasm, willingness to learn and possessing strong communication skills
- Experience with agile and similar software methodologies
THE EXTRAS:
As described by the CTO…
“To gain admittance to our community, we will want you to demonstrate in the interview your skills attainment and expose the way you approach problem solving. You will not need to have the correct answers per se, but we want to find somebody who approaches development tasks in the right way.
Your proposed career path with us is that you will spend the first few months growing your understanding and confidence with our framework. Over time we expect you to become a team leader with your own developers managing sprints and projects.”
THE FINE PRINT:
This is a full-time role. The successful candidate does not need to be based in Scotland however, may be expected to travel to the site in Rosyth (just north of Edinburgh) for team meetings and to meet the wider team. The application process will require screening and vetting with our partner Hamilton Forth followed by a 2-stage interview process – all of which can be conducted via VC platform.
