Hamilton Forth Client Case Study: Vets Now

Role Recruiting: Chief Technology Officer

Project Duration: 8 weeks

Vets Now operate a pet emergency service across the UK. With 53 clinics and three Hospitals offering 24/7 care, the company has grown over the last 17 years to care for over 100,000 pets per annum with a turnover of c£40M.  Employing over 1000 people, the company continues to have ambitious growth plans.

Earlier this year, Hamilton Forth was contacted by Vets Now CFO, Johanna Wallace, as following a review of its IT capability, the company had identified the need to recruit a Chief Technology Officer.  Johanna explained that there was a need to improve the company’s current IT procedures, as well as to develop a strategy that would ensure that the company’s IT staff, processes, and technologies could enable its ambitious growth plans.

Working closely with Johanna, Hamilton Forth consultant Sarah Greensmith, identified the desired candidate profile and began the search process to secure the right person for the role.

It was identified that the successful candidate should have extensive commercial experience having operated at a senior management level in IT, and the ability to influence senior level management and all key stakeholders.  The successful candidate would be required to have an in-depth knowledge of IT best practice and a good understanding of industry trends and developments.  As a strong people leader, the successful candidate would have the necessary gravitas and people skills to command respect and drive improvements within the team and across the business.

Following an intensive eight week search, former NHS 24 Associate Director of Technology John Bain, was appointed as Vets Now’s new CTO.

Commenting on Vets Now’s experience of working with Hamilton Forth, Johanna Wallace said: “Sarah carried out an extensive search on our behalf and was able to present me with a strong shortlist of potential candidates after carrying out initial interviews.

“Sarah’s insight and experience of recruiting technology roles was of great help to me and I would not hesitate in recommending Hamilton Forth.”

Hamilton Forth’s Sarah Greensmith commented: “Working with Vets Now to identify the right person to help the company deliver on its ambitious growth plans was an enjoyable challenge.  We have since worked with the company again to recruit a Technology Change Manager for the organisation’s growing technology team, highlighting our commitment to forging lasting partnerships with our clients.”
