Consultant Spotlight – Rachel Sim

In September 2021 I graduated from Robert Gordon University with degrees in Management with Marketing and Corporate Communications and Public Affairs. I had always wanted to secure a place on a graduate programme due to the variety of work and rotations often offered by such. Upon discovering the Livingston James Group graduate programme on LinkedIn, I began researching what a career in recruitment consisted of; exploring online and speaking with friends in the recruitment industry to get advice on my application.

After a successful multi-stage application process, I began my role as Business Graduate with the Livingston James Group. The intention was to undertake four three-month long rotations within Livingston James (executive search), Hamilton Forth (technology), Rutherford Cross (finance) and finally marketing and operations. However, six months into my graduate scheme I have been given the opportunity to fast track my recruitment journey and move into a Consultant role.

During my placement with Hamilton Forth I have focused on research, market mapping and candidate communications while also having the opportunity to be involved with client meetings. This variety of responsibilities and exposure to all aspects of talent acquisition has enabled me to understand the recruitment process and where I want to focus my time.

I was eager to accept a role within the Hamilton Forth team having been embraced by every member of the team and made to feel valued from my first day. As the newest brand in the Livingston James Group portfolio, I am passionate about being a part of the teams’ growth and development.

Being given the opportunity to complete the graduate scheme early and move into a permanent position within the Hamilton Forth team will ensure I can hone my recruitment skills and knowledge of the tech recruitment industry. I am passionate about becoming a recruiter who prioritises creating meaningful relationships with clients and candidates; something which I have seen first-hand from the Livingston James Group team. Since starting at Hamilton Forth, there hasn’t been a quiet day as we are currently very busy working with a great range of excellent clients. This is made up of public, private, and not-for-profit organisations from a variety of sectors, so no two days are the same.

I am looking forward to developing my recruitment skills and continuing to represent Hamilton Forth as a business who help people and organisations realise their potential.
