At previous recruitment firms I’ve worked with, there has been a huge focus on KPIs and numbers, with an expectation of high levels of input from employees to achieve success. Whilst this isn’t unusual, and can certainly get results, it doesn’t always allow you to show your full potential – nor does it lend itself to the notion that you intend to build lasting relationships with clients and candidates.
Wherever I’ve worked I’ve always taken ownership of my own success and have managed to support a vast array of different business stakeholders, but when you work with a big brand, it can mean you have something to hide behind when things get tricky.
One of the things that attracted me to work with Hamilton Forth and Livingston James Group was the chance to build a brand from the ground up with a team that I really rated, and the accountability and trust which that brings. It helped that the wider Group had a really good reputation within the industry, and I was keen to be a part of that.
Joining the Group in lockdown could have been challenging, but the process was really well-managed, and I felt really supported in becoming part of a new team. Having internal ‘champions’ to arrange virtual quizzes and social gatherings, wellness challenges, and fundraising activities have meant that I’ve had a chance to build relationships with colleagues outside Teams meetings and emails.
As part of the wider Group with specialisms in executive search and senior finance recruitment, there is an established network of clients and contacts that we are able to leverage to continue the growth of Hamilton Forth. With a focus on building relationships, and an emphasis on purpose and values, we are well supported in order to achieve success.
As an outfit, we are a sociable bunch too – I personally love to get involved with the organised events, but we also place a huge emphasis on striking the working and social balance effectively. Avid golfers are warmly welcomed into this team as are footballers (of any real ability!) cooks, quizzers, cinema buffs and those who simply like a pint of beer or a glass of wine and a blether! I’ve loved that side of the business – which in turn, makes you feel like this is a place you want to do well.
